The 9th Annual Marialuisa Lectureship for Life

Due to scheduling conflicts, the 9th Annual lectureship (intended for 2008) was actually held on March 6, 2009 and was presented by: Umberto Veronesi, MD, Scientific Director of the European Institute of Oncology and former Italian Minister of Health Among innovations that span his 50-year career, Dr. Veronesi is credited with: - The development of breast-sparing surgery (lumpectomy) in cancer, a procedure that has been adopted by surgeons in the USA and worldwide. - He served as the Director of the National Cancer Institute of Italy - He is the founder of the European Cancer Institute in Milan - He is the founder of the Organization of European Cancer Centers - He served as a Senator in Italy - He has served as the Italian Minister of Health and as a Congressman Dr. Veronesi’s lecture was entitled “New Paradigms in the Management of Breast Cancer”
