Interested in learning more about incorporating open content into your course? As the pool of available open resources continues to grow, it is important for faculty to be able to identify the ways in which they may adopt and modify these openly licensed resources and consider the ways in which they may openly share their own creative works. To build confidence in using copyrighted materials, join the Copyright Resources Center for an introduction to copyright law and the different open licenses provided by Creative Commons. This session will provide a basic overview of U.S. Copyright Law, with discussion on the types of works that may be protected by copyright and the exclusive rights provided to copyright owners. Attendees will learn the ways in which they may legally use copyrighted content and gain a better understanding of the different ways in which a work may be defined as “open.” In this session we will discuss Creative Commons, a major open license option, review the requirements of Creative Commons license, and discuss considerations for choosing a Creative Commons license for your own works.
